Age Jet Plasma Rejuvenation simultaneously treats the entire structure of your skin—wrinkles, elasticity, scars, pigmentation, and more—without breaking or damaging the skin’s surface layer.
The plasma is generated from medical-grade nitrogen gas, the essential component, and is powered by a high-energy field generator. Using controlled pulses of plasma energy at customized and targeted levels, Age Jet heats the tissue of the dermis to simulate new elastin and collagen while an integrated cooling system sooths, hydrates, and restores skin.
Age Jet has a uniform impact across the treated area, so there’s never any patches of over-treated or untreated skin.
Revitalized fiber cells, accelerated micro-circulation, and removal of damaged collagen, as well as the triggered neocollageneis and elastogenesis, leads to healthier, firmer, and lustrous skin that looks younger, and actually has the architecture of younger skin. Immediately skin is refined and tighter, and new collagen continues to synthesize for over a year.
Age Jet Plasma Rejuvenation is FDA-cleared for general dermatological conditions.
Larger surface areas may be covered, or focused, targeted attention may be applied to smaller areas of concern, for example, areas of sun damage, or skin around the eyes.
While any specific skin concerns are addressed, because your entire skin architecture is enveloped during treatment, you’ll benefit from Age Jet’s myriad of additional anti-aging results as well. For example, as you treat skin tone, the plasma stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, and at the same time causes existing collagen fibers to contract, causing skin tightening.
The handpiece’s distance from your skin is regulated by two stainless steel prongs which can be adjusted to control the emitted plasma’s energy. These spacers ensure that the device is never too close to cause harm or too far away to be effective. In concert, the plasm’s energy level is controlled by your practitioner based upon your goals, treatment plan, your skin’s thickness, and tolerance.
Age Jet treatments may be performed on the face, upper and lower eye area, chest, neck, hands, and body.
The following concerns can be effectively treated:
Take only 10 minutes out of the day to bring a more youthful and refreshed look to your upper and lower eyelids. Age Jet offers a better choice than other treatment modalities for treating sensitive eyelid tissue and is a non-surgical option for blepharoplasty. Sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under the eyes can all be treated during one session.
Age Jet for eyes is safe and effective for all skin types. It is a non-ablative therapy with no incidence of scarring or scabbing.
Other benefits:
Ideal candidates have light-to-medium skin tones. The Age Jet procedure dramatically improves the appearance of your skin, regardless of age.
Treatment is contraindicated: patients who are pregnant, patients with keloid scars, with pacemakers (internal or external) and other implanted medical devices, with compromised immune systems, with active skin infections, with skin inflammatory conditions, lesions, diseases, or disorders. Also, patients who have recently undergone a treatment of skin resurfacing or self-tanning products within one week of treatment.
Age Jet is equipped with a sophisticated cooling system capable of cooling, hydrating, and restoring the skin during the same treatment. The cooling system avoids and minimizes risks and unwanted side effects. The treatment is simple and requires no anesthetic, except for deeper interventions, when the anesthetic may apply a topical anesthetic cream or lidocaine product.
Age Jet is proven to be an effective skin tightening method as it channels energy to the skin tissue. This energy is converted into heat to penetrate easily and painlessly into the deeper layers of skin and stimulate the natural processes of cell regeneration. The heat stimulates the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, and at the same time causes existing collagen fibers to contract.
Immediately, you’ll see tighter skin over the treated area. Over several weeks to month, new skin surfaces as the regeneration effects progress.
Result will vary depending upon your treatment regimen and other factors. Clinical studies have shown that the neocollagenesis effect can endure for more than a year after the treatment, so results are long-lasting.
Your treatment plan will be determined during your consultation, based upon your goals, comfortable energy level, areas to be treated, and condition of your skin before treatment. Generally, one to six treatments are recommended.
Prior to treatment, you can boost skin resurfacing results with IPL, and after treatment, your skin will be more permeable, meaning products and other treatments of interest may be more effective. Our experts will have recommendations for you, should you be interested, after analyzing your skin.
While other gases produce plasma, and some such as helium, have been used for medical purposes, the plasma generated by nitrogen has been shown most effective for dermatological purposes.
Fiber cells provide elasticity and resilience. They are composed of elastin and related micorfibrillar proteins which form the structure within your skin.
Within your healthy dermis movement of hormones, gases, waste, and nutrients are optimized by a biological circulation system. Skin’s microcirculation may be altered by aging or sun damage, and can lead to rosacea, redness, and other surface signs.
The synthesis of new collagen and elastin, two components prominent in younger skin and essential for healthy, even, taught skin. As we age, both decline, leading to the signs of aging we hate.
How do I prepare for treatment?
A consultation – always complimentary – is required to discuss the level of energy and number of treatments which best match your goals.
During the two weeks before your appointment, avoid tanning and sun exposure. For seven days before your appointment, do not use exfoliants or topical tretinoins, like retinol, in the treatment area. Rigorously moisturize your skin.
We recommend all of our resurfacing patients use Alastin Skincare’s Procedure Enhancement System starting 14-30 days before your treatment. Pre-treating with this system will clear non-functioning collagen and impurities and prepare your skin for optimal results. Continuing Alastin after treatment will minimize downtime and elevate results. Directions for use.
For your appointment, please do not wear makeup. Men should shave. Moisturize your skin. Remember a case for your contact lenses, or wear your eyeglasses instead. Bring a hat (clean, and one you don’t mind getting petroleum jelly on) and sunglasses to protect your delicate skin on the way home.
What happens during treatment?
45 to 60 minutes is generally required to treat the entire face. Treatments may be as short as five to ten minutes for smaller areas. Treatment times may vary, however, depending on the individual application, the thickness of the skin, and patient sensitivity. You’ll receive a topical numbing cream to apply 30 to 40 minutes before your treatment. For higher-energy treatments, an injectable local anesthetic may be used. A gel will be applied to protect your hairline and eyebrows. If any hair is singed during treatment, it will grow back. You may hear odd noises! If this is uncomfortable, we can provide you with earplugs.
Post-treatment care or downtime?
You’ll leave our office with pink or red skin, protected by a layer of petroleum jelly. Depending on the strength of the treatment, and how well your skin is previously conditioned, the downtime will vary. You may see a “bronzing effect” which will disappear within a few days. It is typically for the patient to experience four to ten days of social downtime.
Your skin will be more permeable post-treatment, allowing for increased efficacy of topical skin care which can speed healing while physiological improvements from your treatment proceed.
Keep your skin moist with petroleum jelly. You’ll be advised upon when you can begin shaving and exercising. Although there are no open wounds, with higher energies skin may peel significantly for several days after the treatment.
Patients can return to their normal daily routine immediately after treatment. The effect of the plasma rehydrates the skin. The treatment requires a very short healing period of between four to ten days, depending on the intensity of the treatment, with minimum redness.
The states of matter are commonly known as solid, liquid, and gas. Under certain conditions of increased energy application, there’s a fourth state—plasma matter—where electrons flow freely among the nuclei of the atoms. Natural plasma (lightning and energy in the sun) and man-made (neon lights and fluorescent light bulbs) surrounds us in our daily lives.
Age Jet delivers this plasma thermal energy through controlled pulses that quickly heat the dermal layers to the ideal temperature for stimulating neocollagenesis and elastogenesis, with no skin ablation. The practitioner controls the energy via the touchscreen in increments of 0.25 joules. The thermal energy is conducted via water in the tissue to the deep layers of the skin while purging the oxygen from the treatment area to avoid vaporization of the epidermis. This energy does not damage the skin barrier, but does cause the layers underneath to undergo regeneration, treating multiple skin issues simultaneously.
Age Jet energy is not fractionated to cover only part of the skin but instead uniformly treats the entire dermal architecture, leading to broad-ranging improvements throughout dermal layers, therefore rejuvenating the entire skin structure.
Founder and Director of Nursing, Linda Behla, RN, works to continually bring cutting edge therapies to her practice. Hayes Valley Med may have been an early U.S. adopter, but already the results show Age Jet is likely to become mainstream, along with tried and true treatments such as lasers and CO2 resurfacers.
Linda and her team have received highest-level training on techniques and the applications of Age Jet.
As with all advanced treatments at Hayes Valley Med, Medical Director Yngvar A. Hvistendahl, MD oversees Age Jet plasma therapies.
